Hopes, Dreams and other Crazy Things

Yesterday watching my son get into things that I rather wish he wouldn't (you know like playing with all things off limits- like the toliet - instead of his ever growing and overflowing toy box) I realized that I can see him as a young little boy. He IS a young little boy you say - but the young little boy I see is maybe 3 or 4, old enough to ask embarasing questions and not be able to fully understand why he has to wait till he's "older" to have them answered. That kind of young. Like "where do babies come from?" kind of question young where we hope that the answer "From Mommy's tummy" will sufice.

I see a little boy who barrels into a room demanding to have a blanket/towel/sheet tied to his neck in "Super Man" fashion and then disappears from the room, only to reappear wearing a colander on his head, chasing the dogs and yelling "CHARGE!!" and carrying some sort of a sword. My mother and my mother-in-law both tell me these are and will be normal little boy behaviors. A part of me can't wait to see it. That is a very small part of me. In almost a month my baby will no longer be a baby but a full fledged toddler.

In a way, these past almost eleven months seem like a dream. A dream because they have gone by so fast and because Chris hasn't gotten to see it all up front and personal. I realized as I was writting this, that if there was a part of Junior's life I would choose to have Chris miss, sadly this part seems to be the part. Not because I have gotten to have all the "baby" stuff to myself but because I see this ride called parenthood entering a new stage, a very fun stage that is perfect for daddies as little guys curiousity goes and personalities are developing. One where the interaction between father and son will set the tone of their relationship if not the foundation of it for the rest of their lives. Every boy needs a man who is willing to be Dad when they need it, and Daddy when they need him as his best friend and playmate the rest of the time. I am looking forward to watching this relationship develop and grow. :)

Twenty Three (23) weeks!

Dang. It's flown by. Can you believe it?! One more week and I'll be six months into this journey. (punctuated by a foot/hand to the bladder). It's all been worth it.

The Things I have learned so far this pregnancy
  • It doesn't really matter what your pre-pregnancy weight is, or was, but what kind of shape your muscles are in does. (Thank you back pain for teaching me THAT one)

  • Some food aversions stick around after morning sickness is gone. (fast food is not your friend .... or a replacement for cooking at home to avoid looking at raw meat)

  • There are wackos out there, and they like to share every scary and terrorfying remotely a pregnancy experiance with you - (kind of like "Don't look Ethel" - or trying not to watch a train wreck in the making - you listen horrified it will happen to you despite your best efforts NOT to)

  • I thought pregnancy brains or "baby brains" was a myth - you would laugh at the typos I found prior to writing this little jewel out - and it's SOOO not a myth!!

  • Morning Sickness may be gone, but waiting too long to eat may piss someone off, who will in turn kick your stomach and make you want to vomit. (oh yeah that makes me want to eat!!)

  • My sense of humor is not what it once was - it's lost and I can't seem to find it. ( I swear I was much more humorus prior to this pregnancy)

  • Message boards are a godsend and horror all at the same time. I've met some really nice ladies - and seen some really crazy drama on a couple. Kinda makes me want to refer you to item #3 on this list and then pray that the people from the message board who read my blog won't flame me ;) (and most should know what drama I'm talking about)

  • Blogs are a good form of self-entertainment. (plus as Sarah puts it... she can keep track of me. :D tee hee.

Things I'm still waiting for with this pregnancy
  • That renewel of energy I was supposed to get almost 3 months ago... I'm still waiting. (and as my OB put it... "It will come in about 18 years" - he's such a wisenhiemer but a good guy ;) )

  • To see what this little guy looks like.

  • Heck to see which side he takes after - and not just with the looks. Pray he's laid back like his daddy - please!!! (oh I am sooo screwed)

  • For my baby shower. I want to go shopping - I want to set stuff up. heck I wanna know when it is. I just like presents :) (and I don't want to get crap for buying Jr something prior to my shower!!!)

  • To see what my pain tolerance is REALLY like and if I'm going to be as big of a baby as everyone claims I will be. (thanks for the vote of confidence mom! - Nothing like hearing your mom told your husband, "Call me when the baby gets here... you get her for labor". My family..... oh yeah)

  • To see my papa, my mom, me and JR all in the same place at the same time (and to see my papa hold Jr. (I'd love to see Nana here too, but I believe Jr already knows her!)
