More pain in the ...
Back. My back has been killing me all day. Literally all day. I started getting muscles spasms probably about five minutes after I woke up. It got to the point where I took tylenol (as recommended by the front office chick at the OB/GYN's office). NADA in terms of pain relief... did not even take the edge off. So about two hours later, I called the clinic here on the base to see if I could get in to see a Dr there. No dice. Earliest appointment is 2 weeks out. The appointment line chick tells me that if I am in pain, "You should go to the ER then". So I called Chris at work - no small feat when there is no one in his shop to answer the phone and his cell phone is turned off! Long story short - I ended up calling the OB's office agian about 2pm, finally getting ahold of the actual nurse, told her I was ready to go to the ER because of the pain and was FINALLY told to come in the Dr could see me.
End result? My back pain/spasms are NOT pregnancy related, so he wants me to see an Orthopedic Specialist. Guess what... to do that - I have to see a Dr at the clinic here on base to get the referral. My OB just wants to make sure that things related to my back will benefit from physical therapy, and also make sure that the appropriate type of physical therapy is ordered/perscribed.
Here's your sign.....
Also the Dr ordered Darvacet for pain - once every 6 hours. I actually looked the Dr in the eye... and asked, "Darvacet is okay for pregnancy right?" Yes I asked this of an OB/GYN who's primary buisness is PREGNANT WOMEN. His response? Straight faced, "Yeah I only perscribed drugs that will hurt the baby." Lets just say I heard the words leave my mouth, and immediately wanted to eat them.
A BIG FAT BITE ME to:
Tricare and their referral system that is pretty much ensuring that it will take a month or more for me to be able to actually get in to see the Ortho specialist - meaning I get to continue living with this pain in the back!

I don't know if this helps (not advice, I swear! lol) but I am also on Darvocet (for migraines and horrible cramps) and I asked my OB the same question. His response (this is a direct quote),
"The amount the baby gets is as effective as pissing in the ocean." After you filter it out and then it gets filtered by the placenta again, the baby gets next to nothing. :)
Hope that helps.
