An Unexpected Trip to L&D

I had called my Ob’s office about something I thought was pretty minor, but he decided that I needed to come in and get monitored for a little while.

I had a “bruised” feeling across the top of my stomach that couldn’t be explained away by any big movements from Junior. (Such as him flipping from head up to head down for example). When I called the Dr’s nurse asked all kinds of questions, one being how often he had moved in the past hour. I could only remember feeling him move 2 times prior to the phone call. The Dr wasn’t happy with this, and because he wasn’t sure what was causing the bruised feeling he didn’t want to wait until tomorrow for me to come in and get checked out. So I was told to report to L&D and let them know I was to be monitored. Unfortunately Chris was flying so I couldn’t get a hold of him, but did call his work and tell them to have him call as soon as possible.

My girlfriend Jess went to the hospital with me. We got there about 545 and went straight to L&D. They monitored Jr’s heart rate and to see if I was having any contractions. His heart rate was in the mid 130’s- high 140’s the whole time we were there, and as far as I could tell I was having some uterine “irritability” but no true contractions. (Meaning they weren’t worried about them.) My OB stopped by about 30 minutes after we got there, and said his heart rate looked good. Of course after that we got all kinds of movement from Junior. After monitoring him for about an hour or so they had me drink a jug of ice water just to make sure he was moving around enough. About 8:15 they finally released me with no real information other than to keep my next appointment.

So we go back to the Dr. May 7th for our next bi-weekly appointment.
